WASHINGTON, D.C., November 23, 1992 -- The National Business Aircraft Association (NBAA) has joined as a partner in a coalition effort to oppose Van Nuys Airport's proposed noise rules, the first proposed restriction of its kind since passage of the Airport Noise and Capacity Act of 1990. Currently, the coalition includes eight general aviation members based at Van Nuys Airport, plus NBAA.
"The Van Nuys proposal is, in NBAA's opinion, a blatant violation of the Noise and Capacity Act of 1990 and not consistent with a reasonable approach to solving noise problems," said NBAA President John W. Olcott.
At present, the ordinance issue is before the Los Angeles City Council for approval or disapproval. Options available to coalition members include litigation if the City Council chooses to pass the ordinance.
The National Business Aircraft Association (NBAA) represents the aviation interests of over 3,200 companies which operate general aviation aircraft as an aid to the conduct of their business, or are involved with business aviation. NBAA member companies earn annual revenues in excess of three trillion dollars -- over 50 percent of the Gross National Product -- and employ more than 16 million people worldwide.
