Air Cargo "on hold"

Congratulations to everyone that has been involved in this effort for the
past eight months. NASA released a press release late Friday stating that
they
had put the air cargo proposal on hold indefinitely.
The following is a
brief summary from a San Francisco Chronicle article
that appeared this morning
(thanks Walter Bays):
The article is titled:
"Moffett Cargo
Plans Put on Shelf - NASA delays decision pending
panel's study"
"Public outcry - and a promised public advisory election
in
Mountain View - has caused NASA to shelve its plans to turn Moffett Field
into
an air cargo station."
This is a great comment and it
reflects the hard work we have done during
the past few months. The second
comment reflects an editorial opinion of
the author that we should all be aware:
"...the vote was only 4-3 (Mountain View city council)
and
the Sunnyvale City Council voted 4-2 against doing the same thing. All
of which
raises the possibility that public opposition to the air cargo
use of Moffett
may not be too deep, and that NASA is merely making a temporary
strategic
withdrawal."
The author makes a valid point. We need
to change his perception with a
strong campaign in Mountain View and activities
in Sunnyvale that make this
issue visible.
The Alliance will hold an
organization meeting on Thursday at 222 View Street
in Mountain View at 7:30pm
to discuss plans for the fall campaign.
