Concord Ready to Fight Navy
The 8/8/96
San Francisco Chronicle has an article "Concord Ready to
Fight Navy".
Neighbors of the Concord Naval Weapons Station are protesting
plans to build a
large warehouse across the street from a children's amusement
park. They weren't
notified ahead of time, and only found out about the
plans from a newspaper
story a month ago. People jammed a Concord city council
meeting, and over 400
people have signed petitions against the plan. Dana
Claire, a board member of
the Holbrook Heights Community Association opposes
the plan.
The Navy
said their failure to notify neighbors was just "a regrettable
oversight" and agreed to extend a public comment period on the plan
through
Monday - a whopping four days from the newspaper article!
