The Los Altos City Council decided unanimously at its February 10, 2004 meeting to formulate a letter to our representatives asking them to protect civil liberties and amend the PATRIOT Act with that in mind. Council members Lear and Packard are preparing the text to be adopted at the Council meeting February 24. Close to 30 people came to the Council meeting to urge action, and 13 people in the audience addressed the Council - all of them strongly urging protection of civil liberties. The Council agreed that the PATRIOT Act and defense of civil liberties are indeed a local issue.
There is a report from the meeting in the Los Altos Town Crier.
The excellent letter sent by Mayor Moss to senators Boxer and Feinstein and to representative Eshoo is here. Please forward it to neighbors and friends, also outside the area, to encourage people to write letters of their own to their representatives!
