In addition to co-sponsoring the picnic, LAVP will co-sponsor a two week exhibit on peace and nonviolence at the Los Altos Main Library which will be open for viewing on picnic day, August 29. This exhibit, currently at the San Mateo Library, was put together by Victory Over Violence (www.vov.com), a youth-sponsored group that helps young people identify and counteract the root causes of violence in their lives and in their communities. LAVP has also arranged for Taiko drummers from Soka Gakkai International (SGI)-USA to perform from 11:20-11:40 a.m.. SGI-USA (www.sgi-usa.org) is an American Buddhist association representing a broad range of ethnic and social backgrounds that promotes LAVP will be giving away donated books on peace and cultural diversity at their booth at the picnic. The public is invited to bring books to donate or come by the booth to select a book that is of interest to them.
