Between 35 and 40 people met Thursday night, February 27, to form
Mountain View Voices for Peace. The initial goal of the organization is
to oppose the impending war on Iraq. We hope to provide opportunities
for local residents to express their opposition to the war, and to
connect them to regional and national peace efforts as well.

We agreed to continue pressuring the Mountain View City Council to take
a stand against the war. It's on the Tuesday, March 18 agenda. See the
Mountain View Voice February 28 editorial on the subject:

We established a committee to draft a full-page newspaper ad for the
March 14th edition of the Mountain View Voice. The ad will summarize
arguments against the war, provide local residents the opportunity to
sign their names, and include a coupon so additional people can sign up
and donate money.

We will establish an Internet listserver for our group, and we will
explore creating our own website to make it easy for people to learn
about and join our organization. Recognizing that not everyone regularly
uses the Internet, we also plan to prepare fliers in English and Spanish.

Beginning Friday, March 7, we will conduct regular protest vigils at the
corner of Castro Street and El Camino Real, we will plan an emergency
response if and when the war starts.
