The second meeting of Mountain View Voices for Peace (MVVP) was held the
evening of Thursday night, March 6 and plans are moving ahead. The
following is a summary of topics discussed at the meeting:
Sign-on advertisement for the Mountain View VOICE. See the mock-up at
http://www.mvvp.org/peacead0003.html. To be included in the March 14
edition of the VOICE, signatures must be received by March 10th. Please
email additional "signatures" to mvvp@mvvp.org <mailto:mvvp@mvvp.org> or
drop them off (by Sunday Night) at 520 View Street - inside the front
porch on the chair. A draft version of the ad to be placed in the March
14th View was passed around. Suggestions made included clarifying that
only names would appear in the newspaper, finding out where the page
spread would be in the View, re-scaling iraq to be smaller than the USA,
and changing the word "waging". These suggestions were noted and the ad
committee will make changes as time permits, although by dedicating
their time to creating the ad it is fair to say that they have the final
call. It was agreed that an adaptation of the ad will be made for a
flier, and for a sign up sheet to be used in getting signatures at the
Farmers Market and other potentially locations around Mountain View.
Farmer's Market - A table will be set up at 8:30 am at the Farmer's
Market on Sunday March 9th. The purpose will be to get signatures for
the ad and collect donations. Please come out to sit at the table for an
hour or two on Sunday if you have time. All signatures will be picked up
at 1:00 pm for inclusion in the ad.
Mountain View City Council Meeting - We will meet at 6:00 pm on Tuesday,
March 18th in the Mountain View Civic Center Plaza (at Castro and Mercy
Streets) with signs. It was agreed that buttons would be made to wear
and hand out, so those at the meeting for the proposed anti-war
resolution could be identified. On that evening a phone tree will be put
into place so most MVVPs can go home and receive a call when this item
is addressed. A committee was formed to coordinate the group's efforts
on this issue and they will decide who will address the City Council and
the strategy for their comments.
Candlelight Vigil Weekly - Weekly candlelight vigils will start at 6pm
and go to approximately 7 pm on Friday evenings at the corner of El
Camino and Castro. A large sign reading "Mountain View Voices for Peace
- www.mvvp.org <http://www.mvvp.org>- 650-969-1545" will be made for
approximately $150, (but will not be available for this week's vigil).
The vigil will include both candles and signs. For this week, if anyone
has time please make some signs that have the group's name and website
on them. Materials for sign making will be available at the vigil.
Candlelight Vigil Emergency - If the war begins, on the day of the
announcement, we will meet at 5 p.m at the corner of El Camino and
Castro. If the war is announced after 5 p.m we will meet at 5 p.m. the
following day at the corner of El Camino and Castro.
Website and Listserve - It was agreed that only MVVP announcement would
be e-mailed to the list serve. The website will have links to other
resources. You may e-mail suggestions for links to mvvp@mvvp.org
<mailto:mvvp@mvvp.org>. The webpage currently posted is a first draft,
however. Suggestions included that MVVP actions, etc. be the most
prominent items on the webpage. Our next meeting will be held at 7:30 pm
on Thursday, March 13, but we are still looking for available space.
Please contact Amanda Carr (acarr@harveyecology.com
<mailto:acarr@harveyecology.com>) if you have any suggestions.
It was also announced that students at Mountain View High School are
