MINEOLA, TexasCeremonies to welcome a veterans tribute to east Texas were interrupted with word of soldiers shot and killed at Fort Hood.
The American Veterans Traveling Tribute and Traveling Wall exhibit will be on display on the grounds of the Mineola (min-ee-OH'-luh) Civic Center through Sunday.
The ceremony was interrupted Thursday afternoon when an official with the Mineola Detachment 1278 Marine Corps League, Bob Quinn, announced the Fort Hood shootings.
Quinn, in tears, interrupted the regular program to say "let's remember them and their families."
The suspected gunman, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was shot by a police officer and remains hospitalized. The motive for the Fort Hood shootings, which left 13 dead and 30 wounded, is unclear.
Mineola is a town of about 4,800, located 80 miles southeast of Dallas.
